Abstract(s)
A maioria
do mercado existente.
Sara Sobreiro.
This report was written as part of the "Internship" course of the Integrated Master's Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences. It consists of two chapters corresponding to the research aspect and the internship experience in a community pharmacy. Chapter I deals with the study of cosmetics sold in Portugal and is entitled "Anti-stretch mark cosmetics: market study". The aim of this research was to carry out a market study of anti-stretch mark cosmetics sold in pharmacies, parapharmacies and hypermarkets in Portugal, analyzing not only the list of ingredients, but also the claims on both the packaging and the websites. A total of 35 cosmetic products from 22 different brands were collected. After this stage was completed, the following information was analyzed: responsible person, brand, commercial name, INCI list, active ingredients, claims on the packaging, claims on the website, effectiveness studies carried out and type of sales location. Most products (74%) were formulated for pregnancy and/or puberty, in the form of oils (43%) and creams (34%). Only 3 products were designed as multifunctional (use for other marks and scars in addition to stretch marks) and only 43% mentioned the appropriate frequency of application (mainly twice a day). It was found that 91% contained ingredients of plant origin due to their emollient activity, direct action on regeneration and collagen fibers. Combination of anti-stretch marks ingredients was found in 22 products, showing the importance of the additive/synergistic effect for efficacy. Claim substantiation through clinical trials was identified for 20 different cosmetics (57%). Among these, 10 do not specify the study population, while 8 were tested among pregnant women. It was found that products sold in pharmacies combine more active ingredients and have more clinical studies than those found in supermarkets. This study made it possible to collect information that will support the development of new anti-stretch marks products with differentiating characteristics from those on the existing market. Chapter II refers to my internship experience in Community Pharmacy, which took place at Farmácia Lopes in Viana do Castelo between February 6 and June 23, 2023, under the guidance of Dr. Sara Sobreiro.
