Abstract(s)
setup.
Nowadays, with increasing competition between companies in the same sector, it is essential that companies differentiate themselves in the market where they operate. Therefore, the plastic packaging industry faces several challenges that do not respect the delivery of high quality products, faster and at lower costs. The implementation of the Lean Philosophy allows the elimination of waste and the optimization of processes. The objective of the Internship was to study the Neutroplast production line, in order to identify possible inefficiencies and recommend suggestions for improvements, which would make the current production system more efficient. To achieve this objective, a bibliographical review on the topics under study was carried out. Then, the problems under study were contextualized and detailed. The inefficiencies identified in the production line concerned internal audits and the mould change process. Improvement proposals were then formulated, which included the application of two Lean tools, the 5S-oriented Kamishibai audits for internal audits, and the Single Minute Exchange of Die (SMED) tool to reduce setup time. The implementation of the improvement proposals brought positive results: Kamishibai audits resulted in a 66.66% reduction in non-conformities detected and the SMED resulted in a 51.87% decrease in setup time in the machine configuration process of blow extrusion, resulting in an estimated saving of 7,743.17 euros per year. Therefore, it was concluded that the implementation of Lean tools in the plastic packaging industry can result in benefits for companies. As a proposal for future work, it was recommended to apply the SMED tool to other injection machines, once the blow extrusion machine obtained positive results.
