Abstract(s)
marcadores biomédicos e a idade.
This investigation is focused on the study of sleep quality and biomedical markers and aims to: (1) describe the sample’s sleep quality; (2) compare sleep quality according to gender and age; (3) describe the biomedical variables of the participants; (4) compare biomedical variables according to gender and age; (5) compare sleep quality according to biomedical variables; (6) assess the degree of association between sleep quality, biomedical markers, and age. It is structured in the format of a scientific article to be submitted for publication in the journal Psychologica. Poor sleep quality has been shown to be related to neuroendocrine alterations, which may be associated with consequent changes in biomedical markers. In this descriptive and inferential study, a sociodemographic questionnaire was used, the Oviedo Sleep Questionnaire and devices for collecting biomedical indicators. The sample is constituted by 229 subjects, 59.8% women and 40.2% men. The levels of satisfaction with sleep quality, of insomnia and hypersomnia are moderate. The values in biomedical variables are within the reference values, so most of this sample is healthy. Subjects that showed worse subjective sleep satisfaction, also showed BMI values above the recommended values. Men showed worse levels of subjective sleep quality and women worse levels of insomnia and hypersomnia. The older subjects are the ones who show worse levels of subjective sleep satisfaction and higher values in biomedical variables.
