In today’s CNS/ATM (Communication, Navigation, Surveillance/Air Traffic Management) paradigm the Automatic Dependent Surveillance Broadcast (ADS-B) is a very important tool in the improvement of surveillance precision, incising the traffic efficiency with even better safety parameters and lower delays. All around the world programs and projects to implement the ADS-B technology are taking place with trials being made with the participation of Air Navigation Services Providers (ANSP’s), focusing Air Traffic Controllers duties, Aircraft Operators, focusing pilots duties, and Aircraft and Avionics manufacturers, to validate the efficiency and safety of this system, as well as the cost, time and changes to make this happen. The goal for this study is to evaluate the inefficiencies presents nowadays on the Central Group of the Azores Islands, Portugal, study the impact of the implementation of as ADS-B system in this area, and it´s afterwards integration with other surveillance sources. Additionally, an approach was made to the cost-benefit subject, as well as the evaluations of the operational character of the ADS-B use to provide a better way of mitigate the inefficiencies studied before.
