Abstract(s)
grandes objectivos do estudo apresentado neste relatório. Numa primeira parte, e partindo
A few months after Portugal had celebrated 75 years of public radio emission, it becomes important to study a medium that scholars have paid little attention, especially in Portugal. To further the study of radio as a medium and, more specifically, how it is done the selection and construction of stories are the main objectives of the study presented in this report.. In the first part, and building upon the studies and investigations already considered classics today, conducted by sociologists and journalists, the study seeks to analyze the elements involved in the processes of gatekeeping and newsmaking in radio and detect their similarities and differences with the press. The Internet's impact on media in general and in particular radio will also be addressed, especially with regard to aspects related to journalism and the role of the journalist. In the second part, the study focuses on participant observation carried out for about three months, at a radio station, specifically the northern delegation of the Portuguese national radio, Radiodifusão Portuguesa (RDP). It seeks to describe, based on a particular case, how the selection and construction of news process are made on the radio, and how time is a critical criterion in this medium. Thus, in summary, what is intended in this study is to survey the processes linked to the theories of gatekeeping and newsmaking in journalism (first part), and observe how these processes apply specifically in radio, through the example of the Portuguese radio RDP (second part).
