Abstract(s)
Finalmente, no caso
The main objective of this research is to identify and analyze the relationship between the barriers to financial, knowledge and market innovation and the propensity to innovate of Portuguese SMEs in the service sector at the product and process innovation level. It is also intended to identify and analyze the effect of these barriers on the propensity to abandon innovation projects through an empirical analysis. The empirical analysis is based on data from the Community Innovation Survey (CIS), for the period 2016-2018, using a sample of 6182 companies in the service sector with a number of employees between 10 and 249. The statistical method used was the logistic regression model. The results showed that for both product innovation and process innovation, the same two barriers to innovation were identified: lack of credit or private investment and lack of access to external knowledge. Finally, in the case of abandoned innovation activities, four barriers have emerged that lead service SMEs to abandon their activities: high costs, lack of qualified employees in their company, market with uncertain demand for their ideas and different priorities within of the company. The results also showed that some barriers to innovation act as drivers of product and process innovation and that, in turn, not all barriers lead to the abandonment of innovative activities.
