Abstract(s)
do futebol nacional.
proximidade e consonância inerentes à prática jornalística e a própria cultura desportiva
Taking into account the dominance that Benfica, FC Porto and Sporting have in the national sports press, which is led by the trio composed by the newspapers A Bola, Record and O Jogo, this research intended to investigate, as far as possible, how exacerbated this dominance is, how it works and the reasons for its existence. The remaining clubs of the portuguese I Liga were used as a term of comparison, in order to be able to reflect on the discrepancies that exist between the spotlight and space, in terms of news, regarding this group and the one that comprises the so-called "big three" of national football. After taking a three-month curricular internship (between 8th November 2021 and 31st January 2022) in the editorial office of the newspaper O Jogo located in Porto, I analysed, based on authors and researchers of the area, the way that sports impacts society, as well as the relationship it has with the media. I also sought to understand why sports journalism is held in lower esteem than general journalism and to reflect, based on the data collected and on my own professional experience, how the choices that dictate which club deserves to be the spotlight of the first page (also known as headline) of a sports newspaper in Portugal are made, as well as investigating why only three clubs are given much more prominence than the others, a question that seems to be caused only by economic reasons, but that involves much more: the criteria of proximity and consonance inherent to the journalistic practice and the portuguese sports culture, also based on the undisputed dominance of these three clubs. It is also important to mention the lack of evidence pointing to a favouritism of any of the portuguese sports newspapers in relation to any club, contrary to what is often alleged on social networks and in coffee chats.
