especialmente a capital do país, Luanda.
informal.
A pesquisa
This study aims to address and analyze the phenomenon of street vendors, traditionally known as zungueiras, in the city of Luanda, the capital of Angola. Since its independence in 1975, Angola has been experiencing a situation of extreme poverty and socioeconomic instability, which is exposed by the various activities in the very precarious informal market. Angola experienced an armed conflict between 1975 and 2002, causing a large number of people to be moved to other cities, especially the country’s capital, Luanda. This situation further increased the difficulties of the population’s social condition, worsening socioeconomic inequality, the lack of public policies and access to basic social services such as water, health, housing, education, etc., which resulted in the development of survival strategies and an increase in the number of people working informally. Based on this situation, this research aims to study the way of life of these women and how they experience the urban space. Furthermore, we want to analyze the occupation of these women in Praça do Pombinha, in the municipality of Sambizanga, in Luanda. This choice is based on the characterization of space, considering that the market is located in a suburban neighbourhood where the largest open-air market in Africa used to be, the well-known Roque Santeiro market, a central point of informal commerce. Thus, we intend to analyze their occupation and the socio-spatial dynamics of Praça do Pombinha. This study also aims to understand the reality of the Zungueiras and to provide visibility to their extremely precarious situation, as an aid to the development of public policies aimed at improving their living conditions, by conducting surveys with Zungueiras and analyzing the urban space in loco. The qualitative and quantitative research analyzed the daily practices of these women in their connection with the zunga, as a survival strategy necessary to create living conditions and the meaning of street trading.
