Abstract(s)
Currently, the society’s position related to environmental issues is undergoing changes. Countries, companies, and people are more concerned and aware of these problems and are taking policies to monitor and reduce the consequences of their activities. The carbon footprint is the total amount of greenhouse gas emissions generated by the activities of people or entities such as countries, organizations, events, among others. The main purpose of this study is to calculate the carbon footprint of Olano Portugal Logística e Distribuição, Lda.'s fleet in 2022. The method used to calculate the carbon footprint follows the methodology applied by Plessis et al. (2023), Gialos et al. (2022), Kirschstein et al. (2022) and Rybicka et al. (2018), which are based on the European Standard 16258:2012. The data for calculating the carbon footprint was provided by the company. The carbon footprint of the tractors and refrigerated trailers belonging to the organization is 19.784.213,07 kg CO2e, respectively. Through the development of this project, the multinational has now a system for monitoring and controlling the carbon footprint of its vehicles. The method used can be replicated to carry out this calculation when necessary, and thus make environmentally conscious decisions.
