Abstract(s)
Despite the significant increase of the interest in the study of mental health problems in elite athletes, there is still a high scarcity in the development of measurement instruments aimed at this population, considering their risk factors, which allow to assist in the early detection of psychopathological symptoms. Thus, the main objective of the study was to proceed to the translation and preliminary validation of a mental health screening instrument developed for elite athletes, the APSQ, for the Portuguese population. The collected sample consisted of 103 participants, with an average age of 22.31, who answered the following instruments: sociodemographic questionnaire, APSQ, K10 and WEMWBS. The instruments were disseminated online, through a selfresponse form, with the following results being obtained: 65% of the sample has mental health problems; the internal consistency analysis revealed a satisfactory Cronbach's alpha; exploratory factor analysis produced a three-factor solution, with adequate reliability properties. In addition, it was possible to confirm the convergent and divergent construct validity of the APSQ, with the study of the degree of association between the APSQ and the K10 and between the APSQ and the WEMWBS. Finally, the APSQ demonstrates to have good psychometric qualities and can be used as a valid measure for the early detection of psychopathological symptoms in portuguese elite athletes. It should be noted that the results relating to the reliability and factorial structure of the APSQ included in the present work were presented, in a conference, at the 2nd International Conferences on PCS at UBI.
