Abstract(s)
O desafio do diagnóstico
responsáveis e assim evitar complicações futuras e agravamento do estado clínico e
This dissertation is divided in to two chapters that describe my professional experience in obtaining a Master's degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences, featuring a research component, as well as an internship component carried out in Community Pharmacy. Chapter I is based on the research component, developed with the help of CHUCB, about the microorganisms responsible for infective endocarditis. Infectious endocarditis is an infection that primarily affects individuals with cardiac comorbidities, which can be fatal if not treated in time. Diagnosis becomes an important challenge in the medical community, which is based on the patient's physical exploration, clinical history, imaging and blood cultures. The challenge of laboratory diagnosis is on negative blood cultures, which is why it is necessary to resort to other alternative methods such as serology, to identify the responsible microrganisms, avoid future complications and start antibiotic therapy as soon as possible. Chapter II illustrates the skills acquired during the internship in Community Pharmacy, between February 22th to July 2 th, 2021, at Nuno Álvares Pharmacy (Castelo Branco), under the guidance of Dr. Jorge Augusto, which proved to be essential for my training as a future pharmacist. This chapter describes how the pharmacy works, its areas of intervention, as well as the experience and knowledge acquired during the internship.
