Abstract(s)
This work intends to analyse the important role of new technologies in the field of built heritage, specifically Geographic Information Systems (GIS), applied in the context of inventorying and managing buildings in historic urban centres, taking advantage of the varied compilation of existing information in municipal archives and technical offices. Given the need to modernize the administrative procedures of Municipalities, which are gradually changing and adapting to the demands of applying new technologies, the data collected prior to all these technological revolutions is of particular interest for the construction of new data bases that feed into the production of thematic maps and varied analyses that support decision-making not only in the area of urban planning and land use planning, but also in tourism, which plays an important role in promoting and enhancing these urban areas. The specific case of the Historic Center of Trancoso was used as a demonstration of how the vast information available can be compiled using GIS technology, in order to systematize the existing information, storing and spatializing the large volume of data on the characteristics of each building, allowing classifications, data cross- referencing, evolution analyses and other types of processing to be carried out. To this end, a data collection application and a dashboard were developed to visualize the information stored. It is hoped that the merit of the application of GIS will be recognized in this municipality, which has done extensive work in surveying the buildings that make up its historic center. It is hoped that the georeferenced database created will fulfill functions other than the preservation of the heritage itself, such as its promotion and dissemination.
