Abstract(s)
origens, influências e precursores do tema.
Dado o meu interesse pessoal no tema
comunicação ativista no contexto contemporâneo.
In the contemporary context, we witness a significant increase in the use of design and art practices that seek not only to convey messages but also to stimulate action and raise awareness in society. Thus, design and art emerge as important communication tools in the activist cause. The main objective of the scientific work presented here is to obtain a comprehensive perspective on activism in design and art. To achieve this goal, we focus on the origins, influences, and precursors of the theme. Throughout the document, different activist examples are presented, allied with design and art to raise awareness about social, political, and economic issues. Given my personal interest in the subject, we present a case study on the work of Miguel Januário from which some insights are drawn regarding the audience's response to the message. While this study is not exhaustive, it serves its purpose. We followed a methodology that first consisted of a literature review centered on literary works and videos, and subsequently an investigation through interviews and questionnaires applied to both the artist and the target audience. The case study on Miguel Januário's work showed that, despite divergences in public reception, the impact and visibility achieved by the artist demonstrate the transformative potential of these practices. By presenting the case study, we reinforce in this dissertation the importance of the role of design and art as essential tools of activist communication in the contemporary context.
