Abstract(s)
With this study the author wants to pay tribute to a current daily clinical problem: “QUALITY OF LIFE IN THE PRESENCE OF A RUPTURED BRAIN ANEURYSM”. In this study the author has four main lines o action: Early diagnosis of brain aneurysms Timing of referral to specialized institutions for management – namely referral to a Neurosurgery Department What are the chances of having positive influence in the evolution of the disease? Prevention strategies and future quality of live of these patients Subaracnóide Haemorrhage is most frequently caused by rupture of brain aneurysms which can lead to significant cognitive and neurological deficits in these patients, affecting daily functional activities. In this study are presented the results of treatment of patients with ruptured brain aneurysm managed surgically in the Department of Neurosurgery of the Coimbra University Hospital. We emphasize the differences of the quality of life of these patients before and after treatment, and the importance of the specialised Health Care in the favourable evolution of the disease. Finally the author also discusses the social-economical impact in the Health Care System (which is experiencing at present serious economical difficulties) of the management of these type of patients.
