Abstract(s)
Ramp accident, or ground damage, has been pointed as an important problem in financial terms for aircraft industry. Although not known the real figures associated with them ramp accidents happen more frequently than most people in the aviation industry imagine - even those more engaged, and its number is a surprise. This is due to the fact that the airport ramp is a potentially dangerous area in which aircraft, vehicles and people are in constant motion. Ramp accidents are typically frequent among personnel as training can be inadequate and standard operating procedures are often ignored. This work examines the amount of ramp accident reported all over the world, in Europe and in Portugal in the last years, analyzes the associated risk within three Portuguese airlines and those registered by the regulator and the responsible for investigating the accidents in Portugal in the recent past - using Event Risk Classification (ERC) methodology, and proposes some safety actions that must be taken to mitigate them.
