Abstract(s)
A deep understanding of the relationship between mental health and cardiovascular diseases plays a crucial role in health promotion. Currently, mental illnesses such as depression and anxiety are increasingly prevalent in society. In addition to the welldocumented effects these pathologies have on individuals' mental health, recent research confirms that they also significantly increase the risk of the onset and progression of cardiovascular diseases. The relationship between mental and cardiovascular diseases is complex and bidirectional. On one hand, cardiovascular risk factors can contribute to the development of mental illnesses; on the other hand, these mental illnesses can trigger adverse physiological responses that increase the risk of cardiovascular disorders. By identifying mental illness as a risk factor, it is possible to implement preventive strategies and early interventions that help reduce the incidence and severity of these conditions. Furthermore, investigating the underlying mechanisms of the relationship between mental illness and cardiovascular diseases, as well as the influence of psychotropic medication, can lead to significant advancements in the development of new treatments and interventions. Thus, the aim of this dissertation is to conduct a literature review on the impact of mental health on cardiovascular diseases and how they can affect the symptoms and progression of the disease, along with their underlying mechanisms and the influence of psychotropic treatment. The dissertation will conclude by addressing its overall implications for individuals' health and the potential new interventions allied with telemedicine.
