Abstract(s)
Durante a gravidez as mulheres experienciam inúmeras alterações fisiológicas e
hormonais.
sob orientação do Dr. Manuel Vieira.
This dissertation includes three chapters in the context of “Internship” curricular unit of the Integrated Master’s Degree in Pharmaceutical Sciences. The first chapter refers to the laboratory research work carried out at the Health Sciences Research Centre of the University of Beira Interior, entitled "Cosmetics for pregnant women - Rational development of a gel for tired legs". During pregnancy, women experience numerous physiological and hormonal changes. The skin undergoes significant changes, such as hyperpigmentation, stretch marks, and changes in the hair and nails. This study aimed to evaluate the Portuguese cosmetics market for pregnant women and based on this information, to develop a cosmetic product for this population. A market study analyzed the cosmetic products available on the Portuguese national market. A natural gel formulation specifically for tired legs in pregnant women was developed. Gel preliminary stability was evaluated through the centrifugation test (3000 RPM, 30min), and temperature cycle test (alternating 4ºC and 40ºC, daily, for 4 weeks), by monitoring the organoleptic characteristics and pH over time. Rheological characterization was conducted using a cone-plate viscometer, with measurements performed under controlled temperature conditions (T=25 °C ± 2 °C) for 1 minute (>5 cone revolutions). A homogeneous, translucent/white and odourless gel was obtained, which remained stable over time. Rheological characterization classifies the gel as a nonNewtonian fluid with pseudoplastic behavior. The second chapter concerns my Community Pharmacy internship, which took place at Farmácia Cordeiro between 11 September and 1 December 2023, under the supervision of Dr. Manuel Vieira. This chapter describes various experiences during the internship, covering the functioning of a community pharmacy and the responsibilities of pharmacists in their professional activity. The third and final chapter refers to the curricular internship in Hospital Pharmacy at the Centro Hospitalar da Cova da Beira, from 4 December 2023 to 26 January 2024, under the guidance of Dr Maria Olímpia Fonseca. Throughout the chapter, the areas and respective functions of hospital pharmacists are described, as well as the activities carried out during the internship.
