Abstract(s)
no assunto, enriquecendo o campo científico.
Estes incluíram a recuperação do investimento a curto prazo,
The increasing global competitiveness demands that companies adopt innovative strategies to remain effective in the market. Innovation plays a fundamental role in the competitiveness of Small and Medium-sized Enterprises (SMEs), ultimately requiring them to embrace methodologies that contribute to profit optimization, such as the Lean philosophy. While research on Lean philosophy in the industry is growing, its specific application in SMEs, especially in the ceramics industry, still lacks sufficient analysis. This raises concerns among entrepreneurs, who may hesitate to implement this philosophy in smaller companies, especially when stability is not guaranteed. The overall objective of this study is to contribute to the development of structured knowledge on the subject, aiming to enhance effective management of implementations in practice. Furthermore, it aims to stimulate ongoing interest from the academic community in the subject, enriching the scientific field. More specifically, the implementation of one of the pillars of Lean philosophy is targeted: the 5S, recognized for its immediate effectiveness in waste reduction. However, the literature also points to the challenge of the sustainability of these management practices, especially in SMEs, due to perceived difficulties regarding usefulness and implementation methods. Familiarity with Lean philosophy is strongly related to its effective application. The methodology used involves conducting a comprehensive literature review, which allowed an understanding of the fundamental principles of 5S and Lean philosophy. Additionally, in collaboration with ARCH Valadares, a SME in the ceramics industry, the 5S was implemented in two distinct sections of the company, and the results were analyzed. Despite challenges such as worker resistance, many of whom have decades of experience in the company, significant benefits were achieved for both the company and the employees. These included short-term investment recovery, improvements in working conditions, and a more positive and healthy organizational culture.
