A Síndrome de Burnout tem vindo a ser definida como uma das consequências mais
marcantes do stresse profissional, e caracteriza-se pela exaustão emocional, sobretudo em
profissões com elevados níveis de contato interpessoal. Como tal, torna-se pertinente estudar a
Síndrome de Burnout em cuidadores formais de idosos institucionalizados, uma vez que são
considerados um grupo de risco.
Foi realizado um estudo descritivo observacional e transversal. O instrumento aplicado foi
o CBI (Copenhagen Burnout Inventário), aplicado a cem cuidadores formais trabalhadores em Lares
de idosos no concelho de Castelo Branco.
No que diz respeito às três dimensões avaliadas no CBI, relativamente ao burnout pessoal
74,5% apresentaram baixos níveis de burnout e 25,5% elevados níveis. Em relação ao burnout
relacionado com o trabalho, 77,1% expõem níveis baixos de burnout e 22,9% apresentam níveis
elevados. Quanto ao burnout relacionado com o cliente 93,4% exibem baixos níveis e 6,6% mostram
altos níveis de burnout.
Concluiu-se que os cuidadores formais de idosos institucionalizados apresentaram baixos
níveis de burnout em todas as dimensões estudadas (cliente, pessoal e trabalho).
The Burnout Syndrome has been defined as one of the most striking consequences of workrelated stress, and characterized by emotional exhaustion, especially in professions with high levels of interpersonal contact. As such, it is pertinent to study the Burnout Syndrome in formal caregivers of institutionalized elderly, since they are considered a risk group. We conducted a descriptive, observational and transversal study. The instrument used was the CBI (Copenhagen Burnout Inventory), applied to formal caregivers hundred workers in nursing homes in the county of Castelo Branco. With respect to the three dimensions measured in the CBI relating to personal burnout 74.5% showed low levels of burnout and 25.5 % high levels. In relation to work-related burnout, 77.1 % exhibit low levels of burnout and 22.9 % had high level. As for burnout related to the customer 93.4 % exhibit low levels and 6.6 % showed high levels of burnout. It was concluded that formal caregivers of institutionalized elderly had low levels of burnout in all studied dimensions (customer, personnel and labor).
