Abstract(s)
Alguns seres humanos têm a capacidade de ver sons, cheirar certas
palavras, ouvir cores, saborear a música ou atribuir cores a números
e letras. A este fenómeno dá-se o nome de sinestesia. Trata-se de
uma condição neurológica que apesar de ser muito antiga só nas
últimas décadas tem vindo a ser cientificamente investigada.
Ainda hoje não existem certezas absolutas sobre a causa deste
fenómeno, mas alguns acreditam que seja de origem biológica.
A sinestesia está de uma certa forma relacionada com a
criatividade e esta relação tem vindo a ser estudada, pelo facto de
muitos sinestetas estarem inseridos no mundo artístico. Existe sem
dúvida uma grande ligação da sinestesia com a arte e esta aparece
de duas maneiras distintas, o artista que realmente possui sinestesia
e o artista que não é sinesteta mas que usa o conceito para criar a
sua obra artística.
A ligação da sinestesia à arte não é recente e está cada vez mais
em voga, pois, na Era Digital, consegue alcançar uma dimensão
muito maior devido ao aparecimento de novas tecnologias. Os
artistas podem agora utilizar uma grande variedade de sensores e
interfaces físicas para criar seus trabalhos, permitindo novas e
diferentes formas de interacção entre o usuário e a obra artística.
Assim sendo, o artista vai conseguir passar para maior número de
sensações com o seu trabalho.
Some people have the ability to see sounds, smell certain words, hear colors, taste music or assign colors to numbers and letters. This phenomenon is named synesthesia and, despite being known for centuries, it is a neurological condition that has only been scientifically investigated in recent years. Even today, it is not absolutely clear the exact cause of such phenomenon, though some researchers think it has a biological origin. Synesthesia is related in a certain way to creativity and this is an interesting relationship to study, also because there are many synesthesic people involved in the artistic realm. There is no doubt about the relationship between synesthesia and art and such relationship happens in two different ways: artists that are true synesthesics and artists that use synesthesic concepts in their work. The relationship between synesthesia and art is not new, and is becoming more extensive in the digital age because of the emergence of new technology and its application in art. Artists can now use a large variety of sensors and physical interfaces to create their work. And these artworks are becoming more interactive, allowing novel and different ways of interaction between the user and the work, and of course communicating new experiences to the senses.
