Um dos parâmetros mais importantes para um usuário de lentes de contacto é a qualidade de visão. Contudo, apenas a medida da acuidade visual fornece informações relativamente limitadas, pois não corresponde às condições de visualização do dia-a-dia.
Assim, este trabalho tem com objectivo avaliar a qualidade visual em usuários de lentes de contacto hidrófilas de substituição mensal e utilização diária. Foram utilizadas três lentes de contacto hidrófilas, duas de silicone hidrogel (Balafilcon A – lente A e Lotrafilcon B – lente B) e uma de alta hidrofilia (Omafilcon B – lente C). A qualidade visual foi quantificada através da realização dos seguintes testes: acuidade visual de alto e baixo contraste, aberrometria e qualificada através da aplicação de um questionário sobre a qualidade visual.
Relativamente à acuidade visual, os resultados obtidos não mostraram diferenças estatisticamente significativas nas medidas da acuidade visual de alto e baixo contraste entre o início e final do mês de utilização de cada tipo de lente (p>0.05).
No que diz respeito à aberrometria, foram encontradas diferenças estatisticamente significativas nas aberrações de alta ordem, concretamente: coma secundário (p=0.013) e trefoil secundário (p=0.042), entre o início e final do mês de uso da lente C. Na comparação entre os fins do mês de utilização das lentes B e C, verificou-se que o astigmatismo vertical apresentou diferenças estatisticamente significativas (p=0.015). Por fim, os resultados mostraram que a aberração esférica tende a apresentar valores mais negativos com as lentes de contacto.
Os resultados obtidos para o questionário sobre qualidade visual indicaram que a gravidade e o grau de incómodo eram os principais responsáveis pela variação da qualidade visual com a lente C. Os sintomas que apresentaram diferenças significativas foram a visão de halos (lente A), dificuldades de focagem (lente B) e visão das luzes em forma de estrela e visão desfocada (lente C).
Concluiu-se que o uso mensal recomendado das lentes, não influencia negativamente a acuidade visual nas condições de alto e baixo contraste. A aberrometria apresenta, de certa forma, resultados concordantes com a acuidade visual. As alterações percebidas na qualidade visual, através do questionário, podem dever-se a alterações na lágrima, degradação do material da lente, ou maior número de depósitos.

However, only the measure of visual acuity provides relatively limited information because it doesn't match the day-by-day visual condition. Therefore, this work aims to evaluate the quality of vision of users with soft contact lenses monthly replacement and daily use. Were used a total of three soft contact lenses, two silicone hydrogel (Balafilcon A – lens A e Lotrafilcon B – lens B) and a high hydrophilic (Omafilcon B – lens C). The quality of vision was quantified by performing the following tests: visual acuity of high and low contrast, aberrometry and qualified by a questionnaire on quality of vision. Regarding visual acuity, the results didn't showed statistically significant differences in visual acuity measures of high and low contrast between the beginning and end of the month of use of each type of lens (p>0.05). Regarding aberrometry, were found statistically significant differences in higher-order aberrations, specifically: secondary coma (p=0.013) and secondary trefoil (p=0.042), between the beginning and end of the month of use of lens C. Comparing between the end of the months of use of lenses B and C, it was found that the vertical astigmatism had statistically significant differences (p=0.015). Finally, the results showed that the spherical aberration tends to more negative values with contact lenses. The results obtained from the quality of vision questionnaire indicated that the severity and the bothersome were the mainly responsible for the change of quality of vision with the lens C. The symptoms that showed significant differences were: haloes (lens A), focusing difficulties (lens B) and starbursts and blurred vision (lens C). It was concluded that the monthly use of lenses, does not negatively influence the visual acuity in high and low contrast conditions. The aberrometry shows, in a way, consistent results with the visual acuity. The changes in quality of vision, perceived by the questionnaire may be due to changes in tear, deterioration of the lens material, or higher deposit number.
