Os eventos desportivos são uma ferramenta estratégica fundamental para o desenvolvimento de
políticas desportivas, podendo influenciar a dinâmica social e económica dos territórios. Este estudo
identifica e analisa as perceções da comunidade local, sobre o impacto social e económico de um
conjunto de eventos desportivos integrados numa intervenção de política desportiva dinamizada pelo
governo local (Braga 2018: Cidade Europeia do Desporto). Foi aplicado um questionário a 157
residentes da cidade anfitriã, composto 7 dimensões (benefícios pessoais, benefícios sociais,
benefícios económicos, imagem da cidade, custos ambientais, custos sociais e políticas desportivas).
Os resultados indicaram que globalmente os residentes de Braga têm a perceção que o evento Cidade
Europeia do Desporto/2018 teve um impacto positivo naquela região. Salienta-se que a imagem da
cidade foi a dimensão com um impacto mais significativo nas perceções dos residentes, seguido dos
benefícios sociais. Os residentes revelaram ainda estar satisfeitos com as políticas desportivas
praticadas pela autarquia. Este estudo é importante para as organizações envolvidas na organização
de eventos, uma vez que identifica um conjunto de elementos que podem influenciar o processo de
tomada de decisão. Esta informação pode permitir aos gestores e aos políticos, uma estruturação
mais eficiente das suas estratégias, de forma a maximizarem os impactos positivos que os eventos
desportivos podem ter nos diversos contextos territoriais.
Sport events are a fundamental strategic tool to develop sports policies, and can influence the economic and social dimensions of territories. This study identifies and analyzes the local community perceptions, about the social and economic impact of an program of sport events promoted by the local government (Braga 2018: European City of Sport). A questionnaire was applied to 157 residents of the host city composed by 7 dimensions (personal benefits, social benefits, economic benefits, image of the city, ambiental costs, social costs and sporting policies).The results show that globally the Braga residents have a perception that the event European City of Sport 2018 had a positive impact on that region. According to the residents perceptions, the image of the city was the dimension with a more significant impact, followed by the social benefits. The residents revealed being satisfied with the sport policies developed by the local government. This study is important for the organizations involved in the events management, once that allowed to identify a set of elements that can influence the process of decision making. This study also can provided to the managers and politicians, information that can help the definitions of a more efficient strategies, in order to maximizing the positive impacts that the sport events can have on the diverse territorial contexts.
