Abstract(s)
com as seguintes palavras-chave: “endometriosis”, “nutrition”, “diet”, “physical activity”
e “exercise”.
Endometriosis is a chronic gynecological condition defined as the presence of functional endometrial tissue outside the uterine cavity. It is one of the most prevalent inflammatory gynecological diseases, affecting approximately 10% of women on reproductive age. It is a disease associated with diverse and debilitating symptoms, significantly impacting the quality of life on affected women. The average range between symptom onset and diagnosis is approximately 7 to 10 years, given to both the normalization of some associated symptoms and the invasive nature of the procedures necessary for definitive diagnosis. Current treatment does not offer a definitive cure, leading to ongoing study and scientific research in this condition. Consequently, knowledge of factors that can influence disease management and its symptoms is crucial. Regular physical activity and a healthy diet are fundamental elements for promoting overall health and well-being. Considering the positive impact these changes can have on various diseases and symptoms, the aim of this dissertation is to understand and evaluate the scientific evidence regarding the impact of physical activity and dietary habits on the symptoms of endometriosis. To develop this dissertation, a search of scientific articles was conducted in the PubMed and Google Scholar databases between March 2023 and December 2023, using the following keywords: "endometriosis", "nutrition", "diet", "physical activity", and "exercise". Although limited, the studies found demonstrate a beneficial effect of physical activity and a diet rich in substances with anti-inflammatory and antioxidant properties, such as omega-3 fatty acids, certain polyphenols, and vitamins C, E, and B1, in reducing symptoms associated with endometriosis, including chronic pelvic pain, dysmenorrhea, or dyspareunia. Despite the need for further studies for a better understanding and explanation of this connection, in the therapeutic approach to this condition it is recommended to include lifestyle changes, including regular physical activity and a healthy diet, alongside medical and surgical therapy.
