Abstract(s)
internacionais, nomeadamente europeus, americanos e canadiano.
In this thesis the ductility of reinforced concrete beams under pure torsion is studied, particularly, beams with plain and hollow rectangular sections. For this, information about several experimental results of beams tested under torsion, from several authors found in the consulted literature, was compiled. In overall, information about 120 beams was gathered for this work. An initial comparative analysis is made between the experimental behaviour of the reference beams and their global expected theoretical behaviour. Afterwards, the ductility analysis is performed by defining a torsional ductility index. Then, the influence of several variable studies on the ductility is analysed and discussed, namely: the concrete compressive strength, the total reinforcement ratio for torsion, the unbalance level of reinforcement, the scale factor of the cross section and the geometrical section type (plain or hollow). The results are compared with the predictions of international standard codes, namely Europeans, Americans and Canadian. The confirmation of the normative clauses with the ultimate behaviour observed for reference beams under torsion is then analysed.
