Abstract(s)
Embora a
Sleep paralysis is a relatively common phenomenon that occurs during the transition between sleep and wakefulness. It is characterized by a feeling of being conscious but otherwise unable to move or speak, often followed by vivid hallucinations and a feeling of pressure or suffocation. Although the cause of sleep paralysis is not fully identified and understood, it is believed to be linked to sleep deprivation or poor sleep hygiene. Other agents, disorders or pathologies that impair sleep quality can also be triggering factors. Sleep paralysis is also closely related to some psychiatric disorders such as anxiety, depression or stress and trauma disorders. Despite being generally harmless, sleep paralysis can be a confusing and frightening experience, especially when individuals are not properly informed and aware of what is happening to them. To seek medical guidance and the adoption of behavioural measures that improve the quality of sleep can be quite beneficial for those who suffer from this condition. In recent years, there has been an increasing interest in this topic, which is reflected in more research and studies that aim to better understand this phenomenon and develop new treatments and interventions. By raising awareness and understanding about sleep paralysis, we can help people who experience this phenomenon to better manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life.
