Famílias em trânsito: a temporalidade da “interface”

dc.description.abstractAtendendo à problemática da articulação entre os contextos familiar, privado e profissional, foca-se neste texto a interface, ou seja, a transição ou deslocação no espaço de pessoas de um desses contextos para um outro. O tema principal em estudo é o transporte dos filhos que frequentam o infantário, a escola ou as ATL, bem como as perceções e estratégias dos pais e das mães em torno desta mobilidade rotineira, durante a semana. Relaciona-se esta tarefa de transporte com a centralidade dos filhos na família de hoje e, consequentemente, a atitude protetora dos pais. Os dados a apresentar provêm de uma pesquisa sobre agregados domésticos em duas zonas em Portugal (distritos de Castelo Branco e Braga) com caraterísticas geográficas e demográficas diferentes. Dados de natureza quantitativa e qualitativa apontam para diferenças entre homens e mulheres no que diz respeito a tipos e padrões de deslocação, bem como no acesso aos e no uso dos meios de transporte. O transporte diário dos filhos pode ser considerado como uma atividade pertencente ao domínio do «cuidar» e isto reflete-se no seu caráter ligeiramente genderizado. This text addresses the interface, or, in other words, the spatial transition between the different contexts of family, private life and work/school. The main subject of study relates to the transport of children to and from day-care, school or extracurricular activities, and the strategies of fathers and mothers regarding this routine form of mobility, on weekdays. For an analysis of the various dimensions of this parental task, the central place of children in today’s families should be taken into account, as this stimulates the protective inclinations among the the parents. The data presented result from a study among households in two zones in Portugal with diverse geographical and demographic characteristics. The quantitative and qualitative data indicate differences between men and women regarding types and patterns of mobility, and also regarding the access to and use of means of transport. The daily school run, in its broadest sense, can be held as an activity pertaining to the domain of «caring» and this is to a certain point reflected in its gendered character.pt_PT
