Abstract(s)
A abordagem empĆrica utiliza dados
empresarias.
This study aims to identify and analyze the effects of determinant factors: institutional and socio-economic; on the total entrepreneurial activity. Additionally, it aims to fill a gap in the literature, regarding the lack of studies about the relationships among entrepreneurial activity, corruption, commercial freedom, economic growth, innovation, inward foreign direct investment and unemployment, applied both to developed countries and developing countries. The empirical analysis uses annual panel data for the period 2003-2018 for a sample of 21 developed and developing countries. The quantile regression model revealed to be adequate to deal with this sample. The empirical evidence points out that corruption, commercial freedom, ratio between innovation and economic growth and inward foreign direct investment have a positive and significant influence on entrepreneurial activity. For the unemployment, it is detected a negative and significant influence on entrepreneurial activity. Bearing in mind the empirical evidence now obtained, greater control by the governments is recommended to improve the nation's institutional environment, as well as the creation of new incentives in order to stimulate research and development activities aimed at registering patents through entrepreneurial initiatives.
