Abstract(s)
ideologia do Estado Novo.
tract Journalism has been playing a central role in contemporary society, not only as a provider of information, but also as a shaper of the public opinion, because it is through the journalistic activity that the main issues of the day are introduced to society, and thus the social reality of the collectivity is also built. Therefore, if journalism did not exist or its functions were somehow subjugated, people would not be aware of what is going on around them. The journalist's activity offers society a conception of what reality is at the present time, by its descriptions of facts associated to events that take place, and if somehow this activity is controlled in favour of an entity, journalism ceases to be a profession that aims for the truth. In the history of Portuguese journalism, this action of seeking and showing the truth was oppressed, by the Salazar regime or Estado Novo, between 1933 and 1974, an era when people only knew a utopian reality, which was transmitted by an authoritarian government. Many were the media that saw their activities controlled, for the protection of the regime and its ideals, and an example of this was Jornal do Fundão, which was suspended for six months due to the publication of a news report that was not in accordance with the ideology of the Estado Novo. This dissertation intends, then, to verify what were the changes carried out in the journalistic activity of Jornal do Fundão, from the time before the suspension to the period after the reappearance of this regional media.
