Abstract(s)
A alteração da estrutura demográfica associada ao envelhecimento populacional é uma realidade. É importante o investimento no conhecimento científico na área do envelhecimento para que se conheçam as consequências ao nível económico, social, cultural, mas principalmente, ao nível da saúde. Este estudo teve como objetivo avaliar a relação entre a satisfação com o suporte social e a perceção do estado de saúde das pessoas idosas institucionalizadas na cidade da Covilhã.
Os dados foram recolhidos por entrevista com a aplicação de diversos instrumentos: questionário de caracterização sociodemográfica, Mini Mental State Examination, Questionário de Autoavaliação da Saúde e do Bem-estar Físico e a Escala de Satisfação com o Suporte Social. No total participaram neste estudo duas instituições e uma amostra final de 68 indivíduos entre os 66 e os 101 anos.
Foi realizado o estudo descritivo e inferencial através da aplicação dos testes de correlação de Kendall e de Pearson e o teste qui-quadrado/Phi and Cramer´s V.
Concluiu-se, deste estudo, que a maioria dos idosos perceciona a sua saúde como “aceitável” ou “fraca” e apresenta uma satisfação média com o suporte social, influenciada positivamente quando recebiam visitas, e ainda, que os idosos que apresentaram maior satisfação com o suporte social apresentaram melhor perceção de saúde.
The changing in the demographics associated with aging of population is a reality. Investment in scientific Knowledge about this subject is extremely important in order to be aware of the consequences at different levels such as: the economic, social, cultural, biological and physical, but mostly at the level of health. This study aimed to evaluate the relationship between Social Support Satisfaction and Perceived Health Status of the institutionalized elderly people. Two institutions of Covilhã have participated and a final sample of 68 people between 66 and 101 years, cooperated. Data were collected by interview and through the application of different questionnaires: a socio-demographic questionnaire, the Mini Mental State Examination, the Questionnaire of the Self-evaluation of Health and Physical Well-being and also through the Scale of Social Support Satisfaction. Data were analyzed within a perspective of descriptive and correlational statistic. It was determined that the vast majority of the sample classified their health as "acceptable" or "weak". Perceived health status do not show related with socio-demographic data. As social support satisfaction is concerned the majority of the sample has an average satisfaction with social support, and there is a relationship between the social support satisfaction with and received visits. With regard to the main objective, the study confirmed that elderly people who have better social support satisfaction have better scores on perception of the health status.
