Abstract(s)
This study aims to evaluate the influence of the way the words are presented in the construction of false memories. We developed a experimental study design based on the work of Deese (1959) and Roediger and McDermott (1995). The sample consisted of 100 university students, most of the Instituto Politécnico de Castelo Branco. The experiment was divided into three phases: the study, the distraction and recognition. Participants were divided into two groups: the experimental group and the control so that we can assess whether the handling of the stimulus contributed to an increase or decrease in false recognition rate. From the results obtained it was found that the majority of subjects had false memories. However, the results also demonstrated that the handling of a contributing factor stimulation to decrease the rate of false recognitions and, also presents a smaller percentage of errors indicated.
