Abstract(s)
A atual pandemia veio
A amostra contou
The year 2020 will be marked by the COVID-19 pandemic, which is a disease that eventually spread to all continents. The current pandemic has come to interfere with the way we interact and with our daily routines, requiring individuals to constantly adapt. For these reasons, this study aims to understand the current effects of the pandemic at the time of data collection, namely the influence of containment measures (quarantine/isolation/social distance) on psychopathological symptoms, focusing especially on anxiety and depression and, in addition to this, still check if it may have an influence on cognitive failures. An online questionnaire was prepared that included the sociodemographic questionnaire, the BSI, and the Cognitive Failures Questionnaire, with the aim of investigating the possibility of a relationship between the previously mentioned variables. The sample had 166 participants with an average age of 38.43 years, 73.5% are female and 48.8% live in the district of Castelo Branco. In this sample, 90 individuals are in confinement and, of these, 42.2% are in voluntary isolation, and the remaining 45.6% say they are not in confinement, with 34.4% indicating that the same occurs for professional reasons. The results indicated a relationship between cognitive failures and psychopathological symptoms in this period of confinement. In this line, individuals with a greater number of cognitive failures had a higher level of psychopathological symptoms, namely, depression and anxiety. It was also found that psychopathological symptoms are negatively correlated with financial income. It is considered that the phase of lockdown easing can have an influence on the results. However, we consider that taking into account this limitation, this study seems to indicate that cognitive failures are more explicitly related to psychopathological symptoms than to any other factor. In turn, psychopathological symptoms seem to arise or be exacerbated by the socioeconomic difficulties that the pandemic causes.
