Abstract(s)
atividades reconhecidas desta planta.
This dissertation was carried out in the scope of the curricular unit “Internship” inserted in the Integrated Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences. This is divided into two chapters, the first corresponding to the research aspect and the second chapter referring to the curricular internship in Community Pharmacy. The first chapter, referring to the research work, corresponds to a collection of information on products marketed in Portuguese Community Pharmacies containing Hamamelis virginiana, through the information found on the respective labels and provided by the suppliers. The use of plants for medicinal use has been known since the beginning of human history. Currently, due to growing vegan trends and intolerances to adverse effects derived from chemical medicines, the demand for herbal products has increased. After collecting the information, it was found that 135 products containing extracts of Hamamelis virginiana are being marketed in community pharmacies in Portugal, the majority (n=114) of which are cosmetic products and intended for the majority (n=116) to cutaneous administration. Of the remaining 11 products are MNSRM, 4 food supplements, 3 medical devices and 3 products for veterinary use. In addition to collecting this information, a bibliographic review of the recognized activities of H. virginiana extracts was also carried out, which were later compared with the claims of the commercialized products under analysis and with the EMA legislation. The health and wellness promoting claims of 22 products were found not to be in compliance with the recognized activities of this plant. Thus, it is essential to carry out scientific studies that support the claims of these products. In addition, this study can support the development of new products and the creation of a database of products containing extracts of Hamamelis virginiana, available to the entire population, since this plant has a variety of activities beneficial to the body. The second chapter corresponds to the description of the activities performed during the curricular internship in Community Pharmacy, held between February and June, under the guidance of Dr. Ana Marta Salvador, technical director of the Farmácia da Misericórdia located in the city of Trancoso, district of the Guard.
