Abstract(s)
satisfação revelou-se tendencialmente moderada (75,8 %). Todas as dimensões do
Burnout among nurses is recognised as a growing problem, driven by heavy workloads, scarce resources and, more recently, the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on the National Health Service. This study measured burnout and job satisfaction among nurses at the Castelo Branco Local Health Unit (ULSCB) and examined the influence of sociodemographic and work-related variables. Using a quantitative, descriptive-correlational, and cross-sectional design, 153 participants responded to the Copenhagen Burnout Inventory and the Nurse Job Satisfaction Scale. The average age was 45.7 years, and 82.4% were female. High levels of burnout were found in the personal (58.8 %) and work-related (60.8 %) dimensions, values higher than those reported in earlier Portuguese studies. Job satisfaction was generally moderate (75.8 %). All burnout dimensions correlated negatively and significantly with all satisfaction dimensions, confirming the inverse relationship between the constructs. Marital status, care setting, employment in multiple locations and shift pattern were identified as determinants of both phenomena. The findings point to the need for organisational adjustments to limit consecutive shifts, strengthen staffing levels and create opportunities for recognition and career progression, strategies that could mitigate burnout, increase satisfaction and support nurse retention within the ULSCB.
