Abstract(s)
partes.
A segunda parte do
As part of the Master's degree in Sports Science, specifically in the field of Exercise and Health, an internship took place within a Residential Structure for Older People (ERPI) during the academic year 2024/2025. The internship aimed to provide practical experience in evaluating and prescribing individualized exercise for individuals living in ERPI and Day Centers. The first section describes the professional experience gained throughout the internship, highlighting the work developed in accordance with current scientific evidence and the specific needs of Physical Exercise Technicians (TEF). The second part of the report presents an initial study on scientific research, aimed at analyzing the impact of an individualized physical exercise program on physical fitness, cognitive function, and health-related quality of life in older individuals from ERPI and Day Centers. The results demonstrated significant improvements in physical performance (assessed by the Short Physical Performance Battery [SPPB] test), cognitive function (assessed by the Montreal Cognitive Assessment [MoCA] test), and various domains of perceived health-related quality of life (SF-36 questionnaire). Additionally, improvements were observed in health-related physical fitness components (strength, cardiorespiratory endurance, flexibility), in the reversal of physical frailty, and in the increased estimated appendicular muscle mass. Upon completion of the internship, it was possible to meet the proposed objectives, both practically and scientifically, thereby consolidating the practical and theoretical skills essential to professional practice in physical exercise for the older population.
