Abstract(s)
This dissertation focuses on the assessment of professional risks in a company that operates in the Waste Management sector. Since it is a sector considered dangerous due to the most varied reasons, such as the existence of dangerous substances, dangerous work equipment, dangerous raw materials, etc., it is crucial that there are good practices in Safety and Hygiene at Work, so that preventively all professional risks arising from the activity are managed effectively and safely. Thus, in order to identify the various existing hazards, a checklist was used, which was prepared based on all legal and regulatory requirements that must be met. After all hazards and their associated risks have been analysed, the BS8800 standard was used to assess them and prioritize the implementation of corrective and preventive measures. 85 risks were identified with the classification of intolerable, 55 risks with the classification of substantial, 41 risks with the classification of moderate, 10 risks with the classification of tolerable and 2 risks with the classification of trivial. In addition to the analysis and identification of occupational risks, in order to obtain a better context for them, the process of recruiting workers, performance evaluation, career development and environmental concerns were also analysed. However, due to the constraints on access to the company caused by the pandemic situation, it was not possible to carry out an adequate assessment of them. An action plan is proposed to the company with the recommendation of corrective and preventive measures, organized in order of prioritization of its implementation and with an estimate of the respective costs. The implementation of this action plan is essential to prevent the occurrence of occupational accidents, as well as to protect the health and well-being of workers.
