Abstract(s)
The village of Pereira is the scenery where this work is placed, proposing the rehabilitation of a house of vernacular architecture, currently devolute. Its use has been changing over the years, as it has been passed from generation to generation, being originally mixed use, housing upstairs and corral on the ground floor. Today it serves only as a storage place for some old implements. This being said, this intervention intends to anticipate the entrance into decay of the house, since its masonry is still in a good state of conservation, executing for this a rehabilitation project that will suit the new living forms for houses of this type. The design process begins, by a careful analysis of the potential of the building, as well as the region where it is located, because it is characterized by a mostly agricultural and forestry environment, with vast landscapes and the typical tranquillity of the rural environment where it is inserted. As such it becomes pertinent for the new use of this housing to have a retreat function, thus exploiting the characteristics of the site and the building that make it particularly attractive. The program intends that with this rehabilitation project, the building will be able to respond to the current technical requirements, from safety to thermal efficiency and comfort, that also respects the original design of the house, and that fused with a contemporary language, this will become attractive and capable of captivating those looking for a retreat in rural space.
