Abstract(s)
This dissertation is part of the curricular unit entitled Internship of the Integrated Master in Pharmaceutical Sciences, under which I did two internships related to the components of hospital and community pharmacy, as well as a research work related to gastrointestinal inflammatory diseases and illness Parkinson's. The first chapter concerns the research component in the context of the relationship between inflammatory gastrointestinal diseases and Parkinson's disease. Several studies suggest that intestinal inflammation contributes to the development of Parkinson's disease and it is thought that this condition can begin in the gastrointestinal system years before the onset of motor symptoms. Thus, it is suggested that gastrointestinal symptoms are present from the initial stages of PD, and it has been proposed that the pathology of PD may originate in the intestine and then progress to the central nervous system (CNS). In this context, we tried to understand how the drugs used to treat gastrointestinal disorders can prevent the progression of neurodegenerative disease. The second chapter describes the curricular internship in Hospital Pharmacy, held at the Local Health Unit of Castelo-Branco, in the period between February 3 and March 9, 2020, having been suspended due to the Covid-19 pandemic. This chapter highlights the role of the pharmacist within the scope of hospital pharmaceutical services and their organization, as well as the legal aspects inherent to their performance. Finally, the third chapter refers to the internship in community pharmacy, held at the Ferrer pharmacy, in Castelo Branco, between 11 May and 14 August 2020. This chapter describes the functioning of the pharmacy, the possible functions of the pharmacist in this context, as well as the lived experience and the knowledge acquired during the performance of the tasks.
