Procurou-se neste estudo perceber se se verifica a igualdade de género no comentário
desportivo da televisão portuguesa. Com efeito, analisamos, num arco temporal de cinco
meses, a participação das mulheres neste género de comentário televisivo e respetivas
alterações durante este período. A relevância do tema justifica-se face à escassez de
estudos sobre o objeto de estudo em análise.
Veremos que, em Portugal, nos cursos de Jornalismo e similares as mulheres são em
maior número que os homens. Tal não impede que nas redações da área de desporto da
televisão em Portugal quem domina ainda sejam os homens.
Foram analisados os programas de comentário/análise desportiva dos canais televisivos
SICNotícias, TVI24 e CMTV e efetuadas entrevistas semiestruturadas a profissionais da
área. A atenção centrou-se, por um lado, na verificação, à luz dos estudos de género, dos
programas, os seus convidados e os temas discutidos, e, por outro, na avaliação de uma
hipotética discriminação das mulheres em ambiente de redação desportiva.
Com base na análise dos referidos programas e das entrevistas, procurou-se dar resposta
às questões de investigação. Uma das conclusões que resulta do estudo é que existe uma
desigualdade de género evidente e muito significativa nos programas de
comentário/análise desportiva da televisão portuguesa, ainda que as/os profissionais
entendam que, na atualidade, não vislumbram discriminação por género,
essencialmente, nas editorias.
The aim of this study was to understand if there is gender equality in sports commentary on portuguese television. In effect, we analyzed, over a period of five months, the participation of women in this type of television commentary and respective changes during this period. The relevance of the theme is justified with the scarcity of studies on the object of study under analysis. We will see that, in Portugal, in Journalism and similar courses, women are more numerous than men. This does not prevent men from still dominating television sports in the country. The sports commentary/analysis programs of the television channels SICNotícias, TVI24 and CMTV were analyzed, and semi-structured interviews were conducted with professionals in the field. Attention was centered, on the one hand, on verification, in the light of gender studies, programs, their guests and the topics discussed, and, on the other, on the assessment of hypothetical discrimination against women in the sports newsroom’s environment. Based on the analysis of the referred programs and interviews, we seek to answer the research questions. One of the conclusions that results from the study is that there is an evident and very significant gender inequality in the commentary/sports analysis programs on portuguese television, even though the professionals understand that, at present, they do not see discrimination by gender, essentially, in newsrooms.
