Abstract(s)

This study’s objective is to clarify several aspects related to interorganizational cooperation, and also approach how this concept may be applied to non-lucrative institutions. So as to materialize this objective, a real a mixed investigation approach was adopted – qualitative and quantitative – which consisted on real case study between Centro Hospitalar Cova da Beira (CHCB) and Faculdade de Ciências da Saúde da Universidade da Beira Interior (FCS-UBI), with the intention of understanding the motives that lead to the cooperation between the two entities, and in which way that cooperation is perceived by the FCS-UBI students. Based on the empirical evidences that were obtained, it was concluded that the studied cooperation is based on a formal character relationship, since each organization maintains it’s independence, as well as it’s administrative authorities. The cooperation’s benefits, concern mainly on the share of human resources, like CHCB clinical staff, who started executing teaching duties at the FCS, and also FCS students who have access to professional internships at the Hospital. Based on the empirical evidences that were obtained, it was also observed that the cooperation between CHCB and FCS-UBI implied some benefits to the region where the two organizations are inserted, such as economical development that derives from the number of students that are lured into the region by the FCS-UBI. This study also permitted to observe that the student’s perception relating to the interorganizational cooperation which was studied shows a satisfactory level of knowledge, which goes accordingly to what was defined by both institutions directors as being the cooperation’s objectives.
