Abstract(s)
Currently the sector of furniture bet on capital gains, bringing not only by a modern design, attractive and competitive, but also in materials and processing technologies that complement this innovative air. In terms of materials, such as traditionals, are increasingly to compete with newer, such as composites. Thus, in addition to the innovation introduced associates itself with high strength and stiffness characteristic specific of them. On the other hand the adhesive joins assume a crucial role because they compete with the most traditional methods of union, for the reason they being able to join different materials, enabling the use of different thicknesses, and allow a better distribution of tensions. This type of union assumes a bigger interest when applied to composite materials; it prevents the opening of holes and the consequent reduction of mechanical strength. This whole philosophy reported was applied to a very particular style of furniture, Thomas Chippendale, conserving its value and also being up to the needs of today. For that was developed a study carried out a brief historical perspective of the evolution of furniture associated with its design in order to frame the element of the study proposed, the chair. It was developed a methodology for project which is the framework of the chair, as a element of study, and its structural validation. Then there was an experimental study of adhesives between different materials, to achieve its best efficiency. It was found that, for example, the effect of roughness, the length of overlap and the rigidity of materials presents a major role in the resistance of adhesive joins. Finally the conclusions, were checked that the proposed model is susceptible of being feasible. The materials selected lead to innovatory solutions that are able to be applied to the latest technological solutions. The type of joint selected reveals itself as a very acceptable alternative.
