Abstract(s)
Introduction: Polycystic Ovary Syndrome affects a significant percentage of the global female population and contributes considerably to a reduction in these women's quality of life. It encompasses a variety of manifestations that include ovarian dysfunction, hyperandrogenism and polycystic ovarian morphology. Some recent studies have focused on this topic, particularly on the possible influence of an endocrine disruptor, bisphenol A, on the development of the syndrome. Objectives: This review aims to explore the relationship between Polycystic Ovary Syndrome and bisphenol A. Methodology: The bibliographic search was conducted between May and August 2023 for scientific articles related to the topic, using search engines such as PubMed, Google Scholar, Elsevier, and Springer. Results: Several studies have observed correlations between Bisphenol A and Polycystic Ovary Syndrome, or between the endocrine disruptor and other parameters associated with the pathology. However, not all results were consistent. Conclusion: Current studies address the topic from different perspectives and employ distinct methods, sometimes obtaining conflicting results. Thus, considering the current importance of the syndrome and the concept of endocrine disruptors, further research in this area is essential to assist current and future generations.
