Abstract(s)
No
Epilepsy is a chronical disease that has great influence in patients’ quality of life, which is greatly determined by seizure frequency. Nevertheless, a good self-management can improve aspects like adhesion to medication and identification of seizure precipitants, which can lead to a better disease control. On the other hand, it is known that education is a major ally in the control of chronic diseases, leading to an improvement in patients’ selfconfidence and self-knowledge. Therefore, this review has as its goal the analysis of studies that look for a relation between educational interventions and disease control, selfmanagement or quality of life in patients with epilepsy, so to determine their real importance. First, this review was registered in the PROSPERO platform, followed by research in the databases PubMed and Science Direct. The articles retrieved were inserted in the platform Rayyan and the ones whose intervention had as its goal the improvement of patients’ knowledge about epilepsy and its management were selected. The results studied should be related to the improvement of quality of life, disease control or selfmanagement. Through this research, 993 original studies were retrieved, of which 64 were selected as possibly pertinent. Of these, 20 respected all the inclusion criteria and were fully analysed. At the end of this analysis, it was concluded that organized and structured educational interventions may be of great value in the treatment and follow-up of patients with epilepsy. Therefore, its implementation on a regular basis would be extremely beneficial.
