Abstract(s)
portugueses. Desta forma foi possível identificar as visões e expectativas desses
profissionais quanto à tecnologia, compreendendo questões relevantes a serem avaliadas
Increasingly present in our daily lives, Augmented Reality (AR) is a current and recurrent theme in numerous fields of action, and in the museum space it could not be different. Today, museums are constantly challenged to present their objects in a more interactive and attractive way, attending the sociocultural changes of the last decades. The use of new technology in the museum, such as AR, is an attempt to answer the challenges imposed by the new generation of visitors. Thus, while there are numerous studies that examine the benefits of using AR in museums and the experiences of its visitors, there is few research that further examines museum professionals' perspectives and experiences with AR within the museum space. The present study seeks to explore and describe the perspectives and perceptions of museum professionals who have been involved in the creation or application of AR technology within the museum. In order to achieve this goal, we employed the grounded theory using semi structured interviews with professionals from 10 Portuguese museums as a data collection technique. In this way it was possible to identify the visions and expectations of these professionals regarding the technology, understanding relevant issues to be evaluated in the use of AR in these environments. The results obtained in the interviews helped identify six categories of advantages and seven categories of challenges and limitations that allow us to understand and outline a set of guidelines to achieve the full potential of AR in the museum sector. With this research we aim to understand where we currently stand in terms of the production of AR experiences in museums. Evaluating, in a comprehensive way, how Portuguese museums are dealing and working with this technology. We believe that the results obtained may contribute to a deeper understanding of AR implementation in museums.
