Abstract(s)
(Machado, Matos & Gonçalves, 2000); E.C.V.C. (Machado, Matos & Gonçalves, 2000); PCL/P-Scan (Hare, 2003; Hare & Hervé, 1999; Gonçalves & Lobo, 2006 cit. in Lobo, 2007) e ODARA (Hilton, Harris & Rice, 2002).
The aim of this research focuses on a description and characterization of marital offenders through analysis of demographic data, some indicators of mental health and risk factors, as well as the understanding of some associations between these variables. The sample consists of 30 males participants, flagged by the Public Minister as marital offenders and flagged by DGRS for doing sentence for a crime of domestic violence against a spouse or similar. The average age is 49 years with a standard deviation of 11,890, of which 9 (30%) participants are in the middle socioeconomic status and 10 (33,3%) have primary education. The protocol applied to participants was constituted by the following instruments: Sociodemographic Questionnaire; Assignments causal (Henning, Joner & Holdford, 2005), the portuguese version of the SCL-90-R (Derogatis, 1977); I.V.C. (Machado, Matos & Gonçalves, 2000); E.C.V.C. (Machado, Matos & Gonçalves, 2000); PCL/ P-Scan (Hare, 2003; Hare & Hervé, 1999; Gonçalves, & Wolf, 2006 cit. in Lobo, 2007) and ODARA (Hilton, Harris & Rice, 2002). The results indicate that the level of psychopathy characteristics, have proved of considerable concern levels. On the other hand, there was some manifestation of symptoms relating to anxiety and depression however, there was no statistically significant association between these dimensions and indicators of risk of recurrence. We also conclude that most of the participants have substance abuse and both tend to adopt behaviors of physical violence as emotional / psychological, although there was no association between substance abuse and episodes of violent behavior (physical / emotional) in a current relationship.
