Abstract(s)
Historicamente a cidade de Évora, sempre foi uma cidade muito ligada à cultura, nas
suas diferentes expressões (teatro, cinema, escultura, artes performativas, música, etc.). E
sempre existiu um vínculo muito forte com a expressão criativa, que se difundiu com positiva
receptividade junto aos espectadores: exposições, embora pequenas, de uma rotatividade
frequente; concertos na rua, para o público em geral de acesso livre; teatro, produzido pelas
imensas companhias de teatro que existem, entre outras atividades. E apraz-me concluir,
tendo em conta esta tradição de cultura, desde a sua produção, até à sua recepção pelo
público local, que Évora, nos seus moldes históricos, sociais e culturais é um local bem-amado
para a prática da criação artística e da sua difusão, pelo menos historicamente.
O elevado número de associações existentes, algumas delas centenárias,
desempenham um importante papel cultural, na dinamização e disseminação das várias
práticas artísticas e culturais, na medida em que são responsáveis pelo desenvolvimento de
muitos dos projetos e atividades de cariz cultural e social que acontecem.
O cinema, no entanto, é algo que subsiste a muito custo. A cidade perdeu há vários
anos a empresa (Lusomundo) que fazia a gestão e exibição de cinema comercial, e mesmo
quando estava em funcionamento apenas oferecia um cinema de entretenimento, muito
aquém do interesse de um público educado que pretende assistir a um cinema mais
consciente e de “bom gosto”. E, desde então, a sua presença pela região tem vindo a
diminuir, perdendo-se dos hábitos culturais da população direta e indiretamente.
É neste contexto mais reservado e acanhado, que o cinema encontra as suas maiores
dificuldades, possivelmente, por não ter como, no caso do teatro, por exemplo, parceiros que
possam oferecer uma formação e plataformas específicas e maduras de desenvolvimento; falo
por exemplo, no caso do teatro que tem inúmeras associações agregadas, de formação e
produção, e também uma licenciatura no ramo na Universidade de Évora.
Sem essas plataformas e apoios mútuos de cooperação, o cinema encontra
dificuldades no seu desenvolvimento, e neste ponto especifico existe de uma forma mais
pioneira. No entanto conjuntamente com o Cineclube da Universidade de Évora a SOIR tem
um núcleo designado PÁTIO DO CINEMA, que vem gerindo a última sala de cinema da região, o
Auditório Soror Mariana. Uma sala de média dimensão, onde a programação é vocacionada
para o cinema independente e de autor. A SOIR é também a entidade que produz o único festival de cinema da região, o FIKE, que se realiza anualmente e conta até agora
com 11 edições, estando para acontecer a 12ª este ano.
Ao longo dos meus vários anos de formação, já por algumas vezes colaborei com o
festival. Primeiro fazendo parte da equipa de visionamentos para a seleção oficial em
competição, e da segunda vez, no apoio direto no decorrer do festival, como assistente de
produção, nomeadamente, no acompanhamento de uma equipa canadiana que veio fazer a
cobertura do festival, para o integrar numa série televisiva.
Estas colaborações com o festival permitiram-me criar uma base de confiança, e que
recentemente, fosse convidado para integrar a equipa operacional da Associação, que
organiza o festival, dando-me a possibilidade de realizar o estagio objecto deste relatório.
O FIKE e a parceria desenvolvida entre a SOIR e o Cineclube da Universidade de Évora,
tem como principal objectivo a divulgação do cinema como veículo de manifestação artística,
conhecimento de culturas e formas de expressão, propondo-se a ser um espaço de cultura e
acesso a obras menos conhecidas dentro do circuito cinematográfico; divulgando o melhor da
arte cinematográfica, contribuindo para a formação cinéfila de quem lá vai, e ajudando
Évora, enquanto região e cidade, no seu desenvolvimento cultural cinematográfico.
Para além do FIKE é importante também reafirmar o papel dos cineclubes. Estes
fazem-nos retornar às origens da exibição de cinema, pois deslocarmo-nos a uma sala é
partilhar de um ato social e crítico. Servem para ser um espaço de difusão de obras que com
mais dificuldade teríamos acesso e de valorização da multiculturalidade cinematográfica,
permitindo estimular o espectador a mais tarde procurar essa multiculturalidade fora desse
ambiente seguro. São também espaços que procuram promover o contacto do público em
geral com os participantes diretos no cinema; refiro-me a realizadores, críticos, atores e
produtores, com os quais dificilmente poderíamos ter este contacto privilegiado, o que faz
com que o cinema se torne muito mais próximo de nós, mais humano.
No caso do FIKE, tal como noutros festivais, estas "ações culturais" oferecem
masterclasses ou conversas com os próprios criadores das curtas, o que por si só deixa de ser
um espaço para apenas a visualização de cinema, mas passa a ser um local de aprendizagem e
de estruturação de conhecimento.
Historically Évora has always been a city closely linked to culture in its different expressions (theater, cinema, sculpture, performing arts, music, etc.). There has always been a very deep bond between creative expression and the city, that has been very well received among viewers and audience throughout : exhibition, street concerts free of charge for the public in general, or theater produced by one of the many theater companies that exist. And I am pleased to conclude, given this cultural tradition, that goes from production to product, that the reception of the audience in Évora, historically and socially, makes it a well loved place for the artistic creation and its diffusal. At least historically. The elevated number of existing association, some of them centuries old, play an important cultural role in the stimulation and dissemination of the various artistic or cultural practices. Cinema however, is something that exists costly. The city has lost several years ago its exhibitor company (Lusomundo) that managed the exhibition of a comercial cinema, that even so, managed only to deliver an entertaning cinema, very well behind the needs of an educated audience who wanted to see a more consistent and “good taste” cinema. Since then its diffusal from the region have severely been reduced, and the cultural habit from viewers is decresing. Its in this more reserved and shy context that cinema finds its greatest difficulties, possibly by not having , as in the case of theater, for example, partners who can offer and provide training throught specific platforms of development; I speak for example of the numerous associations connected to theater and also the University of Évora who as a degree on the subject. Without these platforms and mutual support and cooperation, cinema finds difficulties in its development, and in this specific point it exist in a pioneer way. SOIR is in charge of managing the last movie theater in the region, the Auditório Soror Mariana. An average size room, where the programming is dedicated to exhibit independent films and author films. Also SOIR is the promoter and producer entity of the only festival in the region, FIKE, that occurs anually and its now on its 11ºth edition, and an ongoing 12ºth this year. Throughout my many years of formation, I have for a few times now collaborated with the festival. First time as a member of the viewing team for the oficial selection in competition, and a second time, on the direct support for the production during the festival, that included the monitoring of a Canadian team that came to cover the festival, for a tv serie. These collaborations allowed me to create a foundation of trust, and was recently invited to join SOIR team, giving me the possibility to do the internship that I will describe on this report. FIKE and the partnership developed between SOIR and Cineclube da Universidade de Évora, aims to exhibit films that are vehicles of artistic expression, knowledge of cultures and forms of expression, proposing to be a space for culture and access to lesser known works within the film circuit; disseminating the best of film art and contributing to the formation of the cinephiles who goes there, and helping Évora in its cinematic cultural development. Beyond FIKE is also important to reaffirm the role of film clubs. These make us return to the origins of cinema exhibition since sharing a movie theater is a social and critical act. They act as a space for the dissemination of films that otherwise would be difficult to access and to value the filmic multiculturalism, allowing the viewer to be stimulated and later to seek that multiculturalism outside this safe environment. They also seek to promote contact with the general public and direct participants in the cinema; I mean filmmakers, critics, actors and producers with whom we could hardly have this privileged contact, which causes the film to become much closer to us, more humane. In the case of FIKE, as in other festivals, these "cultural activities" offers masterclasses and conversations with the creators themselves of the short films, which by itself is no longer just a space for viewing movies, but becomes a place of learning and structuring of knowledge.
