Esta dissertação tem como objetivo compreender o papel de Portugal em
Operações de Paz contemporâneas e a sua respetiva relevância para a política externa
portuguesa, nomeadamente a participação de forças portuguesas em três esforços
internacionais diferentes, sendo estas a Força Internacional de Assistência à Segurança
(FIAS) no Afeganistão de 2002 a 2014, a Kosovo Force (KFOR) no Kosovo de 1999 a
2017 e por fim a Missão Multidimensional Integrada das Nações Unidas para a
Estabilização da República Centro-Africana (MINUSCA) na República Centro-Africana
de 2017 até à atualidade. Assim, a mesma faz esta análise contemplando não só o papel
que estas operações desempenham para a política externa portuguesa como os seus
objetivos estratégicos, execução e resultados, providenciando no processo uma análise
compreensiva não só do que são missões de paz, mas também do papel da participação
de Portugal nas mesmas enquanto contributo para a política externa portuguesa
contemporânea.
This dissertation aims to understand Portugal's role in contemporary Peace Operations and its relevance to Portuguese foreign policy, specifically focusing on the participation of Portuguese forces in three different international efforts: the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan from 2002 to 2014, the Kosovo Force (KFOR) in Kosovo from 1999 to 2017, and, finally, the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic (MINUSCA) in the Central African Republic from 2017 to the present. This analysis considers not only the role these operations play in Portuguese foreign policy but also their strategic objectives, execution, and outcomes, providing a comprehensive examination of what peace missions entail and the role of Portugal’s participation in them as a contribution to contemporary Portuguese foreign policy.
