Abstract(s)
Personality Disorders are quite prevalent and cause limitations to various important aspects of an individual’s life. The goal of this study was to analyze the approach to multiculturalism related to the Antisocial Personality Disorder and Psychopathy, using Pub-Med, B-On and Science Direct for the research, in Portuguese and English, exempt from time period limitations. The phenotypical differences and external factors may translate in limitations in the growth of any culture. Furthermore, this knowledge is limited to the most studied ethnic groups. Hare Psychopathy Checklist-Revised and its variants ended up being broadly used for studying such patients. There are still few studies conducted in non-western countries. However, is it believed, that on Antisocial Personality Disorder and Psychopathy, the diagnoses are more connected to cultural factors, which adds significant importance to the continuation of the transcultural and cross-country research. The signs and symptoms must be considered and associated with individual expectations related to each one of the many cultures. In developing countries, the evaluation of these patients is not very consistent. The approach and treatment of these conditions is still very limited, and the studies show high relapse rates, even though showing apparent progress, especially when associated with high Hare Psychopathy Checklist-Revised scores.
