Abstract(s)
Atualmente, a obesidade é bastante prevalente a nível mundial, acarretando inúmeros
controlo do apetite e do peso.
Amostras pequenas,
Introduction: Oxytocin is a hormone classically known for its effects on childbirth and breastfeeding, and its best known application in clinical practice is in obstetrics to induce labor. Currently, new functions have been discovered. Several preclinical trials have documented anorexigenic properties of oxytocin, both in terms of caloric intake, energy expenditure and body weight. Obesity is quite prevalent worldwide, causing numerous associated health problems. There are numerous therapies proposed for its treatment, with oxytocin being a potential solution, still under research. The aim of this work was to analyze the scientific evidence of the usefulness of oxytocin in controlling appetite and weight. Materials and methods: The present work was undertaked by a literature search of scientific articles in the database "PubMed / MEDLINE" using the keywords "oxytocin", "obesity", "food intake" and "appetite". Randomized clinical trials were preferably selected. Results: This monograph identified 18 randomized clinical trials that were the subject of a more detailed analysis. Most studies have shown benefits in terms of food intake, metabolic parameters and cognitive control when viewing food stimuli. However, the studies as a whole did not reveal significant decreases in weight. Discussion: The data on this topic are still uncertain. Small, heterogeneous samples, reduced study times, different designs of investigations, different dosages and lack of knowledge of the pharmacological properties of oxytocin may explain this uncertainty. Conclusion: In the future, it is important to continue to carry out more studies, with larger samples and over a longer period of time, to obtain more reliable results, always paying attention to the potential occurrence of adverse events.
