Abstract(s)
modo a poder estar acessĆvel a qualquer classe social. O dispositivo desenvolvido visa contribuir
Over the years, the average life expectancy tends to increase, which inevitably translates into an aging population. Some consequences of this process are the decrease or loss of cognitive and motor skills, directly reflecting on people's quality of life and autonomy, often compromising the fulfillment of their medication therapeutic plan. Increasingly, medicines are introduced into human life in order to improve their quality of life. Older people and people with dementia need special attention, as they are more susceptible to the onset of various pathologies, often requiring complex medicine therapy that is difficult to achieve independently. It is then necessary to develop devices and/or intelligent systems that assist these people in the management and strict compliance with their medicine therapy plan. Thus, in this master's thesis, a device is presented which aims to assist in management and the fulfillment of the medication therapeutic plan, allowing to combat, for example, situations of overdose, medications interactions and even forgetfulness, derived mainly from the lack of recall of instructions, doses and schedules. Although there are several types of medication dispensers on the market, the device presented here includes a set of innovative features that, by being present simultaneously, make this solution detachable from the others on the market. It is a small and portable medication dispenser, able to adapt to the individual's medication needs due to its modular characteristics. It also has audible and luminous alerts to facilitate its use and interpretation. This device is mainly used for tablets of various shapes and sizes, but also has an adapter module capable of accommodating liquid or powdered medication. This will have an intelligent system that enables the management of medication as well as better communication between patient-doctor-pharmacist. It is of the utmost importance to develop a simple and easy-to-handle device that is cost effective so that it can be accessible to any social class. The device developed aims to contribute to adherence to therapy and, consequently, improve a set of factors dependent on it, such as increasing the quality of life and health of patients, promoting a reduction of follow-up appointments and even hospitalizations, leading to reducing health system costs and improving the management of healthcare processes.
