Abstract(s)
A rápida evolução das Tecnologias de Informação e Comunicação (TIC) assume um papel fulcral nos sistemas de saúde, uma vez que permite assegurar a reestruturação necessária à resolução dos problemas que se afiguram mais relevantes.
A Telemedicina resulta da utilização de TIC na prestação de cuidados à distância, com vista à obtenção financeiramente sustentável de ganhos em saúde.
Atendendo às suas características geodemográficas, a Região Autónoma dos Açores (RAA) reúne as condições ideais para a utilização desta ferramenta que garante a acessibilidade a cuidados de saúde, reduzindo distâncias e gastos associados à deslocação de profissionais e utentes e, consequentemente, significativos ganhos em saúde.
O presente trabalho teve como objetivo geral conhecer o “estado da arte” e perspetivas de desenvolvimento da Telemedicina na RAA, com vista à sua operacionalização estruturada e assim promover uma verdadeira política de coesão na área da saúde.
The rapid evolution of information and communication technologies (ICT) plays a crucial role in health care systems, as it ensures the necessary restructuring to solve the most relevant problems. Telemedicine is a result of the application of ICT in remote health care. It promotes a better health care service in a financially sustainable way. Considering the geographical and demographic profile of the Autonomous Region of the Azores (ARA), it gathers the ideal conditions to enforce the implementation of Telemedicine, which will assure improvements in the quality and accessibility to health care provision, therefore reducing distance and cost factors associated with the travelling of health care professionals and patients. This dissertation had the main objective of understanding the current “state of the art” and development perspectives of Telemedicine in the ARA to proceed with it’s structured operationalisation in order to ensure an equal standard in the whole Regional Health Services of the Azores (RHSA).
